Culm Valley

Soloists (But not alone)

Soloists meet to chat and discuss our various interests and what we would like to do next. We are not singers - we are all single.

We like to meet over lunch, trying somewhere new or returning to favourites.  We have eaten some very good lunches in the process, at venues such as the always popular Ashill Inn, The Agricultural Inn and Merry Harriers to name just a few.  It is just over a year since our first meeting at the Culmstock café, where we made lists of our interests and the things we like to do.

As single individuals, we all agreed on producing a schedule of activities for some fun, where we could achieve a shared experience.

Some stand out activities over the summer months have been the gardens.  Every weekend there have been some wonderful gardens to visit. Notably, the historic gardens at Wayford Manor near Crewkerne with fantastic spring shrubs and trees, almost in the middle of nowhere and the beautiful peaceful Springdale at Smeatharpe on the top of the Blackdown Hills.

Several Soloists visited the Sand Farmhouse at Sidbury in August for a talk by Denise Lyon of Green Studio Garden Design about her ownGarden in Sidbury.  A lovely location and interesting chat about garden designs accompanied by tea and home-made cakes.“

Heading into Autumn and Winter, our focus will be quite different.  As we have a variety of interests between us, we can splinter into small numbers for concerts, daytime visits to places such as Exeter and Plymouth for theatre, a tour of Plymouth Gin and other activities. We often circulate ideas via our What’s App group such as the August Jazz on the Exeter Quay.
